If you're a programmer or wannabe programmer with not lots of experience and want to write games, I'd highly recommend checking out BGT. It's up to version 0.5 and you can now compile games with the light or pro licenses. Lots of classes to manipulate sounds, use TTS, create menus, etc. It's at

I agree. This is the best way for people who have shall we say, less than stellar programming knowledge but still want to create games. True it is a form of programming but it takes out some of the more difficult parts and as long as you're patient and willing to take it in small steps, getting one sound to play, then creating a basic menu, things along those lines, you'll be less likely to get frustrated. I wanted to jump right in and create a game (indeed I started trying to do just that), but it tok only a few weeks for me to realize that hey, maybe i ought to start smaller. Create each component of the game first and get the hang of that before you move on to the next part.
